Studio C-41 releases PocketMeter Pro, a light meter for photographers and cinematographers

iPhone app drives the camera to the exposure you dial, and reads film speeds down to ISO 0.5

BALL GROUND, Ga. — September 22, 2026 — Studio C-41 Productions, LLC today released PocketMeter Pro, a light meter for iPhone built for people who work in stops, angles and film speeds. It is available on the App Store in 175 countries and regions.

Most metering apps report a number. PocketMeter Pro drives the phone’s sensor to the exposure you dial, so the viewfinder shows the frame those settings would actually produce — before anything is shot, developed or graded.

The app reads reflected light through the iPhone camera and returns a complete working exposure — shutter, aperture and ISO together, rather than one figure to convert by hand. Tapping the viewfinder meters that point instead of the whole frame. Locking any two dials leaves the third to follow.

It speaks two vocabularies. In Photo mode the dials read shutter speed, aperture and ISO, with neutral density in filter-factor notation. In Cine mode the shutter becomes a shutter angle in degrees against a frame rate, and neutral density switches to optical density — the labels each department already uses.

Four things distinguish it:

• False color anchored to your settings. The exposure map reads against the exposure you dialed rather than the phone’s automatic one, so it shows what those settings would record: what is crushed, what is clipped, and what is sitting on middle gray.
• Film speeds down to ISO 0.5. The ISO dial extends nearly six stops below the usual floor of 25, in third stops, for wet plate collodion, paper negatives, and ortho and lith films.
• Classic 16mm shutter angles and frame rates. 135, 165 and 172.8 degrees sit alongside 180, and the frame-rate list runs from 8 to 64 fps, including the governor speeds on hand-wound cameras. Added in response to a request from a working cinematographer during testing.
• Readings that stay with the frame. Logging writes the exposure into a photo and attaches the location, so a scout reads back as a map and a roll comes back with notes to check it against.

On iPhone Pro models the LiDAR scanner reports the distance to the metered point, for focus and depth-of-field work.

The app has no servers and no accounts. Nothing is uploaded, and its App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected.

Availability and pricing. PocketMeter Pro is available today on the App Store at $9.99, an introductory price through December 31, 2026, rising to $14.99 on January 1, 2027. It is a one-time purchase with no subscription and no in-app purchases, and requires an iPhone running iOS 17 or later. The LiDAR rangefinder requires an iPhone Pro model with a LiDAR scanner; every other feature runs on any supported iPhone.
